Cheap accommodation in New York: choose your location carefully
When looking for cheap accommodation in New York, think carefully about where it is located. Indeed, the more you look in downtown Manhattan, the higher the prices will be. And conversely, if you go to Brooklyn, Queens or Long Island, you are likely to find more affordable accommodation.
However, my advice will be to check that your accommodation is near a metro stop. This is an important point, as it will save you wasting time in reaching midtown Manhattan, and allow you to enjoy your stay. So think about it!
Now it's up to you to compare the different options and find the right compromise between location, price, comfort and interest. Below are some of my recommendations for hotels outside of Manhattan that offer comfortable accommodations at affordable prices.
The Nesva Hotel, in Long Island
Located in the Long Island Borough, the Nesva Hotel offers rooms with beds very comfortable, with flat screen and WiFi connection. You can enjoy the view offered from some rooms, and the breakfast included in the price.

Lefferts Manor, for Brooklyn lovers
You prefer the borough of brooklyn ? You're right, this is my favorite! Also, Lefferts Manor is one of my favorites in this neighborhood.
This small guest house offers absolutely charming rooms in pastel colors. And believe me, you will feel right at home from the moment you arrive. In addition, you will find within the house a common living room where residents meet to read, play games or simply exchange anecdotes over tea or coffee.

The Pod 39 hotel, one of my favorite hotels
As I told you before, the Pod 39 hotel is one of my top budget hotel favorites in New York. Located in the heart of Manhattan, right next to Grand Central Terminal station, this hotel is utterly charming. You will be pleased to find comfortable rooms with TV and WiFi included. But my big crush with this hotel concerns its rooftop ! So climb quickly and discover a multitude of tables installed under the garlands of paper lanterns. Sip your beer or cocktail in a setting 100% New Yorker !
Note that the hotel also has a restaurant and a ping-pong room. A nugget, I tell you!

Sleep in a dorm
Another solution to combine central position and affordable prices is that of the youth hostel. Indeed, staying in a youth hostel generally involves sleeping in a shared dorm with several other travelers. Otherwise, you can also opt for a very modest room.
This is an option to consider if you are traveling alone or with friends, and do not need privacy or special comfort.
Make friends
The good thing is that you are sure to meet new people if you stay in a hostel. Because most of the occupants are between 18 and 25 years and are travelers from all over the world. So if you want to find travel companions or party in the evening, this is an option to consider without hesitation!
Of course, don't expect great comfort. Most dorms have between 6 and 8 beds. However, there are sometimes dorms with dozens of beds! Additionally, expect to share your bathroom and toilets with other residents. The watchwords are to take care of your business, so as not to inconvenience anyone and not to lose anything. That being said, the majority of youth hostels provide lockers and padlocks. You can use these to store your belongings safely during your stay.
In addition, a shared kitchen and a lounge are usually included within the hostel. You will be able to cook in a group, and meet up after a long day of sightseeing to chat with other residents and share your tips over a beer or two!
Great savings
Count between 30 and 60 dollars per night, to which you will often have to add city taxes of 13,25% per day and a few dollars of daily tax. Check with the hostel before making your reservation if you have any doubts.
Finally, here are a few tested and approved hostel suggestions that will ensure you have a great time during your stay in New York. Ready ? So don't forget to take your earplugs with you. This will allow you to sleep well despite any snoring from your roommates!

Located on Amsterdam Avenue and a stone's throw from Central Park, the Hostelling International hostel offers clean and functional dormitories for everyone. Each dormitory has its own lockers. The Bowery House, the “Friends” youth hostel
Did you love the “Friends” TV series? So go to The Bowery House, which offers a decor straight out of the series! There you will find large plush sofas and windows overlooking the typical New York fire escape stairs.
And the other big bonus is the rooftop that the hostel offers, where you will love to spend your summer evenings in the company of other travelers.
The rooms are quite cramped, but the location, right in the heart of Manhattan, makes this a great budget hostel. Also, count a hundred dollars per night.

The NY Moore Hostel
If you're looking to escape the hubbub of Manhattan, head to Brooklyn and the NY Moore Hostel. The latter is located at 179 Moore Street, in the heart of Williamsburg, this little hipster neighborhood that you will surely love. This is a very trendy neighborhood just about XNUMX minutes by subway from downtown Manhattan.
