The history of Trinity Church in a nutshell

Trinity Church is the work of American architect Richard Upjohn, who designed it in a Gothic Revival style. It is part of the National Historic Landmark (national historic site), by its architecture, but also because of its role in the history of the city of New York. When the church was consecrated on May 1, 1846 (Ascension Day), its neo-Gothic-inspired spire, surmounted by a golden cross, dominated the urban panorama of southern Manhattan. Trinity Church was thus a welcome beacon for ships arriving in New York Harbor.

Despite the many skyscrapers surrounding the church, Trinity Church has kept very important spiritual values in the heart of Manhattan and still serves as a place of worship and meditation for Christians.

At the entrance of Trinity Church you will find an amazing sculpture "Trinity Root". This sculpture was constructed from the roots of a tree removed from the ground of the World Trade Center. It is impressive and well worth the detour!

The interior is sober but very pretty, the church has in the nave magnificent stained glass windows which are among the oldest in the United States and beautiful vaulted ceilings. when you enter the church, a plaque tells you that Queen Elisabeth II came to meditate in this church in 1976.

The cemetery should not be missed. A real haven of peace in the city with very old tombs in the shade of tall trees. When the beautiful days arrive the cemetery turns into a picnic area.
